I believe that this picture is a symbol of Formalism.
During this time period Cubism and Fauvism were very popular. Fauvism is many bright colors like in this painting and Cubism is when you show a person more then 1 view of 1 thing.
This is a very good example of line. The many lines in the buildings and city sky-line draw your eye to it. Then you notice the family in the front of the painting. I also think the linesof the patio are very dividing.
