I got this picture from...http://www.nga.gov/cgi-bin/psearch?Request=A&Person=4850 During this time period there was the Great Depression. The tired looking colors could be of the feeling of the people during that time period. Also America was becoming a very popular place to live so this painting could be showing how people were learning new things from the other people coming from differrent places.
This is an example of Impressionalism.
I think that this paintings is a very good example of texture. When artists incorperate texture into their paintings they try to duplicate the look of something in a way that you can interprite the texture. In this painting the girls dress, skin, hair and body all have a sense of texture.
